If you're like me, you prefer to vote for someone who wants to be a person to you as well as a candidate. It's hard to know someone through cyberspace, but here is some information about me you may find helpful.
I'm a husband of 25 years in a very happy marriage (thanks in part to the magic of good therapy). I have two remarkably contented and successful kids (I don't know where that magic came from). I'm pleased to say that each member of my family likes and respects the others. We laugh a lot.

I love a good time, but I'm also an information junkie who will read art, biography, history, biology, physics, economics, literature, and just about anything else that interests me at the moment. I like good food and good movies. I exercise almost daily and generally hate it. I have a strong work ethic, but I also play well with others. I'm proud that colleagues on committees often compliment me for the extent of my contributions.

In my copious free time I think it's important to give something back to the community. For the last few years I have worked on environmental issues in my town. We were able to get a referendum passed so that every property sale generates a fee that goes into a fund to preserve open space. Ours is one of the first two towns in upstate New York State to pass such a bill. Since then I've taken on the role of facilitator for a local sustainability organization. The organization was founded at my dining room table five years ago, and we have since sponsored a number of initiatives, including community gardens, community-supported agriculture, energy use reduction, bike paths, and several others.

If you believe in destiny, I was fated for a very different life than the one I lead now. I come from a blue-collar family, one where people rarely talked about feelings unless you'd had a few drinks, and no one was interested in intellectual pursuits. I knew from early on that I wanted something different, and knew even as a teenager that that something involved psychology. It was an inspired choice. I am pleased to have chosen a career that has helped me be a better and happier person. I've also worked hard to make my life a good one, and I will work as hard for you as APA president.
